eating for two

Ask any mother what her favourite food was during pregnancy and you’ll get a list as diverse as rice, grapefruit and french fries. Our hunger and cravings are a dramatic outward manifestations of the changes happening within. Baby is making his or her presence known, and along with the hunger comes the responsibility of making healthy choices for two.

Because even if you’re hyper organized and you’ve padded your pantry and filled your freezer pre-baby – which we’d highly recommend by the way – nothing beats fresh meals delivered by friends and family.

It hasn’t been that long since our babies were, well, babies, but in that scant time it seems that diaper bags, strollers, toys, high chairs, clothes and baby gear in general just keeps getting cooler and cooler. And mum-of-three Leanne Kripp has brought all that cool stuff together at jack & lola, North Van’s first one-stop baby shop that just opened off of Lonsdale on 1st Avenue.

We know you’re good at multi-tasking so we’re always on the hunt for products that are as multi-faceted as you are, which is why we want to spread the word about Lee Valley’s World’s Greatest Nail Brushes. We bought them for their intended purpose and they really are great – especially with all the hand washing mums do – but one day in a pinch we used one to wash vegetables and we were converts!

Because babies should sleep on their back, it is important to have them upright or on their tummy during the day to develop their cervical spine and avoid cranial flattening. As there’s only so much tummy time one baby can take, a carrier is an optimal way to strengthen their neck and back. Other baby wearing benefits include a decrease in separation anxiety, more efficient daytime naps, a better latch for nursing and a possible minimizing of colic.
