We’ve discovered a lovely collection of letterpress cards from a group of eco-friendly focused Canadian companies that are perfect for either announcing your new babe or celebrating someone else’s. One of the first parenting choices you’ll agonize over is cloth or disposable diapers. And while you may not spend as much time worrying about wipes, you will notice that conventional wipes add up in terms of waste. Even if you’re using reusable wipes – anything from washcloths and warm water to fancier homemade options – they’re not super handy when you’re out and about, which is why we like Nursery Naturals baby wipes as a portable alternative.

You may shop locally and eat locally but will you name your child locally? No, we’re not suggesting you burden your babe with a name like Really Rainy or Georgia Straight, but you can compare the choice you’re about to make against BC Vital Statistic Agency’s list of most popular baby names that’s updated annually. After all, if you’re toying with the names Ethan or Ava, it’s good to know that they were BC’s most popular baby names in 2008 and 2007.

There are lots of fun pregnancy symptoms – hearing your baby’s heartbeat, feeling your baby move, your thick, shiny hair – and then there are lots of less fun symptoms. Think morning sickness, heartburn and leukorrhea, which is lay-pregnant-lady terms means increased vaginal discharge. So what’s a leaky mum-to-be to do? Well, you could invest in a raft of panty liners but we’re more partial to Lunapanties, they’re friendlier to both your nether regions and the earth.

After the haze of the first trimester wanes and you enter the much anticipated (hopefully) energetic second trimester, you’re thrown a new pregnancy curve ball – you no longer fit into most of your “regular” clothes. And while you may be living in reworked knit dresses and yoga pants, at a certain point you’ll find you’re really missing that tried and true wardrobe staple – your favourite pair of jeans.

When you’re expecting, choosing a car seat is right up there with choosing the right stroller. There’s lots of research to do and options to consider. But whether you choose a car seat by brand, recommendation or even colour, there’s no doubt that we all want our children to be as protected as possible on even the shortest journey.

There are a lot of things to plan for when you’re pregnant. You have a nursery to set up, strollers and car seats to research and lots of appointments to book with your doctor or midwife. And then there’s the very un-sexy but extremely important issue of sorting out your maternity leave benefits.
